About Mackay Youth Support Services Inc.
MYSS has a long history of providing services to young people and their families within Mackay and region with the organization being recognized as an Incorporated Association in 1997. The organization began as a result of a perceived need to implement community support services into secondary schools in the area. The service was a part of the initial Youth Support Coordinator (YSC) pilot program, with one worker fulfilling this position up until April 2005, when the YSC program expanded to 4.5 positions. The organization also delivered the Young Person and Parent Mediation service, which in 2006 evolved into the U-Nite Youth and Family Support Service.
The organisation is located in Mackay but offers YSC services to Sarina, Mirani, Mackay, Proserpine, Collinsville and Bowen. MYSS is overseen by a voluntary Management Committee and a Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of the organization. Overall there are currently 4 paid employees of MYSS.
MYSS currently receives all of its funding from the Department of Communities Queensland.
